Dr. Oralia Loza

Oralia Loza completed a PhD in the Joint Doctoral Program in Public Health, Epidemiology at UCSD and SDSU through the mentorship of Dr. Steffanie Strathdee (UCSD Global Public Health), her PhD advisor. The title of Dr. Loza's dissertation was "Factors Associated with Early Initiation Into Sex Work and STI among Female Sex Workers in Two Mexico-U.S. Border Cities." This work is based on Proyecto Mujer Mas Segura (PI: Dr. Tom Patterson, UCSD Psychiatry), a sexual behavior intervention study among Female Sex Workers in Tijuana and Ciudad Juarez. Dr. Loza is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the Division of Global Public Health and preparing manuscripts from her dissertation research for publication. In the Spring, she will start her position as assistant professor at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), teaching statistics and epidemiology and continuing border health research in HIV/STI prevention among the injection drug users in Ciudad Juarez. |
