Timothy Rodwell MD, PhD, MPH is a physician trained in infectious disease ecology, preventive medicine and epidemiology. He received his PhD from UC Davis, his MD from Stanford University and his MPH and Preventive Medicine Residency training from SDSU and UCSD. He is currently an associate physician and Global Health Fellow at UCSD and consults for UCSD PEPFAR in Ethiopia. Dr. Rodwell has been studying tuberculosis (TB) and emerging zoonotic disease epidemiology since 1995. He specializes in global health and development, with an emphasis on TB monitoring, control and treatment in resource-poor settings. Dr. Rodwell recently completed a comprehensive epidemiology and molecular epidemiology study of Mycobacterium bovis transmission between Mexico and the US, and is currently investigating HIV/TB co-infection in southern California. Dr. Rodwell is also involved in research on the molecular epidemiology of global TB drug resistance and TB infection control in Ethiopia. Previous research included investigations of anthrax in elephants in Namibia, bovine tuberculosis control in African buffalo in South Africa and Lyme disease vectors in California. His experience ranges from studies at the molecular level to population level disease modeling. Dr. Rodwell is also co-founder of Utopia Scientific, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization focusing on promoting awareness of the importance of science, public health and conservation through research, education and community development.
