Dr. Jamila Stockman

Jamila K. Stockman, PhD, MPH, holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services, and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology with a focus on Infectious Diseases, from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her research interests include intimate partner violence, particularly sexual violence, HIV risk behaviors, substance abuse, mental health outcomes, and reproductive health and behaviors. Populations of interests include women who are minority or underserved, heterosexual or bisexual, pregnant, trafficked, or indigent. She has worked with low-income minority abused women, some of who were also HIV-positive, in Baltimore, Maryland and has most recently been involved in the development of mixed-methods case-control study on abuse status and physical and mental health consequences among African American women in Baltimore and Afro Caribbean women in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Dr. Stockman’s long-term career goals are to conduct research that can be used in future policy and decision making processes and to develop interventions addressing the simultaneous reduction of intimate partner violence and HIV infection, with the integration of mental health and substance abuse issues.
